Stila has been killing the makeup game lately, first with amazing glitter eyeshadows (Magnificent Metal shadows), and most recently with this set of highlighters. The Stila Heaven’s Hue Highlighter comes in 3 available shades – Trancendence, Kitten, and Bronze. They are $32 each and house approximately 0.35 ounces of product. I swatched this highlighter at my local Sephora the other day and the shine literally blew my mind! I had to buy it immediately. So, did this highlighter live up to the swatch? Stila Heaven’s Hue Highlighter
Friday night was my daughter’s junior year Ring Day ceremony. Since I’m a makeup artist by trade, I happily did her makeup and wanted use this product on her, specifically. She has oily skin, so I tried the Wet n Wild Photo Focus foundation on her, followed by Clinique Airbrush concealer under her eyes. I baked with Ben Nye Cameo powder and bronzed using a setting powder from Black Radiance. My final step before highlight was a spritz of MAC Fix+.
The gold, plastic packaging is gorgeous and feels very high-end. It comes with a good quality mirror and a clear, plastic cover protecting the powder. The highlighter has a slightly wet/gel, bouncy consistency. To get product payoff, I took a damp beauty blender to pick up the product. Brushes will not work. I dabbed the sponge on the tops of her cheekbones, down the bridge of her nose, and her cupid’s bow. The first layer provides a natural glow, but it is build able to a blinding finish. Throughout the night, I noticed the high-shine faded a great deal and left behind very fine glitter particles, which I was a bit disappointed with. I also wore the highlighter and experienced similar results.
To sum up my thoughts, I think that the Stila Heaven’s Hue Highlighter in Kitten is amazingly beautiful. The formula is unique and the shades available will fit light to dark skin tones. I think a lot of people will be off-put with the consistency and performance. Brushes will get you nowhere, so damp sponges and fingers are the only tools of choice. I love the ability to build it up, so it’s great for people of all ages. It’s also great for individuals with acne scars or large pores, since it didn’t draw attention to skin issues. Longevity was my overall issue, but I still believe in this highlighter wholeheartedly. Give it a try.
